PCES - 1 Book 1 School - Chapters One -Three
We hope you enjoy reading the book with your family members!
Chapter One
You may find that in the first chapter, Avery is able to walk around with a “wooden dagger” and a pellet gun. He even takes it to get on the bus! This is a great opportunity to chat with your family about how things were when you or your grandparents were at school. How have rules and laws changed over time?
After delivering her argument about the injustice of Wilbur being born small, Mr. Arable decides to let her keep him. Does this surprise you? What lessons do you think he wants Fern to learn?
Chapter Two:
Mr. Arable has Fern sell Wilbur to Uncle Homer. How do you believe this home change will affect Wilbur? Will it affect Fern?
Chapter Three
Page 13-
The barn was very large. It was very old. It smelled of hay and it smelled of manure. It smelled of the perspiration of tired horses and the wonderful sweet breath of patient cows. It often had a sort of peaceful smell- as though nothing bad could happen ever again in the world.
How does this description of Zuckerman’s barn enhance your reading of this chapter? Is there a line that stands out to you? Which is it?

FLU SEASON is upon us!
Good afternoon. We are seeing a lot of "influenza-like illnesses" this past week. PLEASE keep your student home if he/she is not feeling well, has or has had a fever of 100.4 or higher in the past 24 hours or has vomited or had diarrhea within the past 24 hours. I've attached a chart to help you decide.
Please call your child's school so the attendance can be properly documented. Encourage fluids, ensure adequate rest at night, and encourage good hand washing. Additionally, if your house gets hit with the germs, wash down frequently touched items such as light switches, faucets, flushes, doorknobs, etc. We are in the heart of the viral season!!

The middle school championship games scheduled for today will be broadcast on NFHS

It has come to our attention that there are some phishing emails circulating that appear to be fundraising efforts from the school (see attached example). Please be mindful of these phishing attempts, and if you have any questions at all, you can always contact the school to verify.

Good luck to our M.S. Boys Basketball team as they host Hichborn tomorrow at 2 PM for the Penquis league Championship. PCSS will also be hosting the middle school girls basketball championship at 12 PM Stearns vs. Medway.

It’s Arts Alive time again! As in the past, we are excited to be able to involve the community. On Friday, June 6th, the students will be participating in a variety of art sessions. The sessions will be offered by staff and community members. As you may or may not know, this program is not paid for through the SAD4 budget process, therefore we are asking for financial support to help with art supplies, food, and end of day presentation called FrogTown Mountain Puppeteer. With this being said, we are doing a calendar raffle for the month of February. Tickets will be 1 for $5 or 5 for $20. Tickets will be put back into the bucket after they are drawn and we will draw a new ticket each day for a new prize. Our prizes have been donated from our communities of Guilford, Dover-Foxcroft, and Dexter.” Feel free to contact Danielle Williams at daniellewilliams@sad4.org or Kerri Pulkkinen at kpulkkinen@sad4.org if you would like more information on how you can get a ticket or two for our calendar raffle. We thank you for your support! - PCES Arts Alive Committee
