Note from the nurse: The year has started off as a typical year in my office...snotty noses, coughs, sore throats. This is a standard thing in my world as immune systems re-acclimate to being around germs. I just want to remind parents, that if your child is exhibiting viral/cold symptoms, in place of pooled testing and "test to stay" this year, we are asking parents to keep students home for at least 24 hours after symptoms start. It is recommended to test at the onset of symptoms. If symptoms aren't improving (without medication) after 24 hours, he/she should stay home until they are. If your child needs medication to make it through the day, he/she should stay home to rest. (This includes Tylenol, Ibuprofen, or cold/cough medicine). Thank you for your help in helping us transition back into "normal" after these past two years of strict Covid guidelines!

INHALERS/NEBULIZERS: This is a reminder (especially at the elementary school) to please send in a spare inhaler, or nebulizer ampules (in a prescription labeled box) to keep at school. Tis the season for asthmatic flareups, and if your child needs medication and it's not here, I call you as well as an ambulance to see who can get it to the school the fastest. Respiratory distress is the number one cause of cardiac arrest in children, according to the American Heart Association. (I am working through the health forms and will send a medication form home if you indicated he/she uses one. Even those who self-carry need a med form on hand). Mrs. Viera

Our dental hygienist will be in starting next week to offer dental cleanings, screenings and flouride for those who have signed up. This is a reminder (especially for the high school since forms went out late) to return your health packets, including the health form, over-the-counter medication form, dental forms, flu vaccine and Binax testing permission forms. This year, if a signed form is NOT on file with the school, I will not be calling to get parental permission to administer Tylenol. Mrs. Viera

There are several field trips coming up. Please make sure to send your child with his/her inhaler if it’s not already at the school. If it is needed while off campus and not available, it is an ambulance call. Mrs. Viera

Good morning. The state has supplied at-home Covid tests for each student. We figured it would be easiest to distribute them at open houses, followed by the day after, during which you can come to the school to pick them up. Each student will get 6 tests. Open house for PCES is on 9/13, and tests will be in your child's classroom. PCSS is on 9/15, and tests will be in the office. You may pick up at either school for siblings in the opposite school. If you need them sooner, please contact me, and we can make other arrangements. Mrs. Viera

NOTE FROM THE NURSE: You will be receiving some extra forms either in the mail, or in your student's take-home folder. These may seem redundant with the online portion you filled out, but they are forms specific to outside contracted service providers, such as the dental hygienist, or state-specific, such as the flu and Binax test permission. Thank you for your attention to these forms and kindly return them to the school as soon as possible. Mrs. Viera

Covid/Sick protocol: Welcome back to the new school year. As of now, we will be implementing the following illness protocol: Please keep your child home for AT LEAST 24 hours with any viral symptoms, including: sore throat, fever over 100.4, new cough, loss of taste/smell, chills, body aches, runny nose/congestion (not related to allergies), vomiting or diarrhea. If, after 24 hours, symptoms are improving, and they haven't had Tylenol or Ibuprofen in those 24 hours, they may return to school. If symptoms continue, keep him/her home until you see improvement or you have a negative Covid test. It is recommended by the CDC/DOE that you test your child for Covid with onset of the above symptoms and that your child mask until symptoms are resolved. (Each student has 6 rapid tests available for pick-up at the school). We will not be contact tracing this year (as of now), but if you know your child has been exposed to Covid, it is recommended that he/she mask for ten days and test on day 6, or earlier if symptoms develop. If symptoms develop after exposure, please keep him/her home until a test is done and notify the school. If your child tests positive for Covid, there is a 5 day isolation period. He/She could return as early as day 6 if symptoms are improvING and he/she has had no fever on day 5. Masking is recommended through day 10. PLEASE call the front office if your student will be absent due to illness so we can keep track and mark them appropriately. You may or may not receive a call from the nurse to follow up. As always, contact Mrs. Viera with any questions. wviera@sad4.org 876-4633

For those of you that receive a medication form in the mail, I forgot to insert the explanation letter. Simply fill out your child's information on the top, sign the bottom and put the provider's name on the BACK. I will fax it to him/her for the rest of the information. All medications need to be delivered to the school by an adult except for inhalers, epi-pens and insulin. Mrs Viera
