Good morning. We are deeply saddened by the recent incident involving a shooting in our State. Here at MSAD #4, we will continue to operate with a regular schedule. We understand that this event raises safety concerns, and we want to emphasize that we will stay in contact with law enforcement. Based on current information there is no direct threat to our school from this event, we are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the security and well-being of our students and staff. We encourage everyone to remain highly aware and report suspicious activity immediately. Our top priority is the safety of our school community, and we are committed to providing a secure learning environment for everyone involved.

Good luck to our middle school girls as they head to Howland tonight to take on Hichborn Middle School. It is a 7 PM game time.

Good luck to our high school soccer team today as they take on Madawaska at 3 PM. Madawaska does live stream there games. Here is the link: https://youtube.com/live/6DUnMixj5Sw

DEADLINE REMINDER:
This is just a reminder that the deadline to get permission forms in for the FLU CLINIC and SPORTS PHYSICALS is this Friday. Forms received after that time will only be honored on a time/supply available basis. Feel free to email the completed forms to wviera@sad4.org. Both forms are available at the front desk in each school. (Physicals are 10/27, Flu clinic is 11/3)

FLU CLINIC:
Flu shots will be given at both schools on Friday, November 3rd. Please have all permission forms turned in to Mrs. Viera by this Friday, October 20th so Northern Light can order the vaccines. Forms received after the 20th are not guaranteed to be administered.
Due to the difficulty administering injections to afternoon PreK students, this year I'm asking that they be brought in to the school for the morning administration at 8:30. I'm sorry for this inconvenience, but over the years I've found that PreK does much better with the shots when it is done with their peers in a group.
I've attempted to add a link with the permission form and VIS information. Please email me if you need a packet sent home. wviera@sad4.org.

SCHOOL-BASED HEALTH CENTER:
I have been working with Katahdin Valley Health Center to set up a "School-Based Health Center" (SBHC). I figured with the upcoming clinic that will be opening this Fall in Dover, it would be a great place to have access to as an alternative to using the ER for things such as ear infections, strep throat, etc. The services they provide through the school will be billed to your student's insurance/MaineCare directly through KVHC.
While we will still be using Chandra Kain as our Dental Hygienist, and I will continue doing vision screenings, KVHC will have a dentist to provide needed dental work as well as an opthamologist for more in-depth eye exams for those not passing the screenings here at school.
Other services will be available as well, such as OT/PT/Counseling, and I'm looking into telehealth to assess ear infections, rashes, etc right from my office to theirs! Strep cultures will still need to be seen in person to process. At this time, the closest office is in Brownville.
I will be sending out information soon via email. There is a sliding scale for those who have no insurance or not very good insurance. Access to these services will need to be signed up for in advance so your student can be entered into their database. Health records will be maintained and accessible through KVHC.
Please email Mrs. Viera if you are interested and don't have access to a printer.

Our middle school playoffs have been set! M.S. Field Hockey will host Warsaw on Friday October 13 at 3:30 PM. M.S. Girls Soccer hosts Greenville on Thursday 10/19 at 3:30 PM. M.S. Boys Soccer hosts Greenville on Thursday 10/19 at 5 PM.

October is National Principals’ Month and in honor of this, The Maine Principal’s Association decided to choose one outstanding MPA Principal to be featured for every day. Today Mrs. Wright is being honored after her visit to DC as Maine’s 2023 Distinguished Principal. Please read more at: www.mpaprof.org.

The middle school field hockey game scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed to Monday 10/9 at 4:30.

ASTHMA SEASON is upon us! If your student does not carry/use his/her inhaler independently (usually 4th grade and above), then PLEASE make sure the school has one. If you are having difficulty getting a second one, let me know and I'll see what I can do with your child's PCP. If you ask your PCP to order one "for school," you should be able to get one from the pharmacy. Inhalers must come to school with the prescription label on the box. They CAN be transported by the student but must be brought directly to the office. Let me know if you have any questions.

Pandemic EBT:
Over the course of this week, 2023 Summer P-EBT benefits of $120 were issued to over 141,000 traditional students. These included students enrolled in June of 2023 in Special Provision 2 and CEP schools or those eligible for F/R benefits in non-special provision schools. All of these benefits will be available tomorrow, Friday, September 8. More information including the reconciliation application, and the application for homeschooled or fully virtual students is available at https://www.maine.gov/dhhs/ofi/programsservices/food-supplement. This website also includes information on how benefits are issued and how households can return the benefit if they do not want it.
Our district is a Provisional II School, which allows our students to receive free meals. It is our understanding that as a result of participating in this program the State of Maine sent out EBT cards to all families. These cards are used for food purchases and we believe that the amount is $120.00 per child. If you have questions please call our Food Service Director, Roxanne Chase at 207-876-3444.
