Piscataquis Community Secondary School Covid-19 Guidelines
Masking-Indoor Sports
Universal Masking of all athletes, coaches, referees, and spectators are required for all indoor sports while community spread is at a high (red) or substantial (orange) level as identified by the US CDC County View for Penobscot and Piscataquis Counties.
Failure to comply with universal mask mandates may result in an individual’s removal from the venue and may result in a forfeit of the match for the team represented by the individual.
While universal mask measures are in place for indoor play, food and drink will be prohibited in the same gymnasium where the athletic competition is taking place. Those schools who wish to set up a separate location for eating and drinking, may do so but are encouraged to secure 6 foot distances between individuals. All games at PCHS will offer concessions but they will have to be eaten in the cafeteria. No outside food or drinks will be allowed.
There will be no pep band allowed.
Tournament/Post season play will be guided by MPA and hosting facility rules.
Athletes and coaching staff must remain universally masked at all times, including on the bus, during competition, and in locker rooms. No eating on the bus rides.
Athletes and coaching staff are to step away at least 6-feet when lowering the mask to take a drink.
Locker rooms will be assessable to both home and away teams.
When competing against teams with more stringent guidelines these will be followed.
Wrestlers will have to wear a masks during their match as well as inside the facility.
Due to the lack of space, due to social distancing needs, all middle school games will be played at the high school while the high school teams will practice after the middle school game (6:30-8:00) or in the middle school gym (3:00-5:00)
Each school that we travel to, will have different spectator guidelines, then ours as we have zero control over their own guidelines. If a school chooses not to allow visiting spectators we will honor their guidelines. Some schools are offering a Voucher system that I will receive from them and then pass along to the coaches to give to athletes. You will use these to purchase tickets at the game.
I will be sending out the link for each school who will be streaming their games .
As of right now, PCSS will not be not be limiting the fan base, but this could change at any time.
The visiting team will sit behind their team bench as not all the bleachers will be assessable.
The home spectators will sit across from the benches will all the bleachers out.
There will be no Season Passes this year.
All of our games will be streamed through NFHS (Pixellot or Season Cast) Stay tuned.
Our MAIN goal is for these athletes to be able to have a season with spectators. By following these guidelines set forth by the Penquis Superintendents, we may be able to achieve a succ
Well, after the rocky start to school in September, we've enjoyed 6 weeks in October/November in which we only saw 9 positive Covid cases in the District.
After watching area Districts struggling with an influx of cases over the past couple of weeks, as well as seeing several communities around us struggling with an increase in cases, I figured it would be a good time to remind our SAD4 families to do pre-screening at home before sending your child to school. He/She/You should stay home if any ONE of these symptoms are present:
-fever (100.4 or greater)
- sore throat
-chills
- new cough
- loss of taste or smell
or TWO or more of the following:
-congestion/runny nose
- body aches
-headache
- nausea/vomiting/diarrhea
If you're unsure, call the school before sending your child in. I'm usually in by 7:40AM! 876-4633
If you haven't signed your child up for pooled testing, now is the time to consider it. The link for information and to sign up is on our sad4.org website. Code word is PIRATES Participants in the pooled program can continue to come to school and participate in school-related activities as long as they remain without symptoms. They do, however, need to quarantine outside of home. In my most recent case, 14 students/staff were able to continue coming to school because of the program.

SPORTS PHYSICALS:
NorthernLIght, Northwoods will be at both schools on Tuesday, November 23rd to do free sports physicals for anyone in need. I sent out emails to all fifth grade students with physical forms attached.
Mr. Gallant has the list of all athletes that will expire prior to the spring season. The forms are at each school, and Mr. Gallant can get them to you/your student. A questionnaire needs to be filled out and signed by you in order for your student to receive an exam. Forms need to be back by 11/17 in order to organize time slots. Alternately, if your student is notified he/she is due to expire, you can have their PCP fax a copy of their most recent well-child check to the school at 876-4291.
PLEASE have student pass the physicals into the office and NOT the coaches! I have to review them all before clearing them to participate and they don't always get handed into me in a timely fashion.
Good morning! With winter right around the corner, I wanted to share the Winter Kids app/website with you all. In the past, we've participated in the program at the elementary level. Check out this link and see if there is anything that may work for your family to encourage the kids to get outside and stay active this winter! Maine has so much to offer outside!

Positive COVID-19 Cases.10-29-21

Luke Knowlton, PA-C, from Northern Light, Sangerville, will be coming to both schools in the near future to offer sports physicals. Mr. Gallant has a list of who is/will be in need of a physical prior to the end of the winter season. If your child has had a physical at his/her PCP, you can have the office fax a copy to the school at 876-4291. Please, do not give physicals to coaches; they often don't make it to my desk in a timely manner.
Although the PCHS Field Hockey team did not win (2-1) their quarter final game at Dirigo today, they played their best game ever, in a hard fought battle with an evenly match team in the Cougars of Dixfield. Seniors, I can say that we all are very proud of all that you have accomplished over these past four years at PCHS. We ALL will miss your leadership and the passion you ALL have for the game of field hockey. You left it all on the field today and I'm pretty sure you are proud of how each of your team mates played tonight. As your AD, I am very proud of your sportsmanship throughout and how well you treat your team mates. Take care, heal up, and get ready for your next chapter of your senior year ladies. Go Pirates!

PCMS Basketball Tryout Letter to Parents
It’s that time of year for basketball tryouts. Tryouts are for all PCMS students in grades 6-8. . Listed below are the days and times that tryouts will occur. Please understand that in order for an athlete to be chosen for any given team, they must be present during tryouts. In the event your child misses due to illness or injury, a meeting with the athletic director MUST happen and the athlete MUST be given a tryout before being considered for a team. Athletes need to have all their paperwork turned in prior to the first day of tryouts. If they played a fall sport, they are all set to tryout unless their physical has run out. Athletes must show proof of having had a physical within the past two years. Please check with Mrs. Viera to see if they are all set. A Concussion ImPACT Test will be administered to any athlete who has yet to take it for any athlete who is 12 years or older.
This year there will not be a B Team Basketball program. In place of this, there will be an intramural program for any individual who wants to improve their individual basketball skills. This program will not start until after the first of the year and having someone run the program. Stay tuned on more information coming later on.

Best of to the ladies in the Quarter Final game!
The PCMS Field Hockey team had a tough 1-0 loss in the Championship game Friday against a tough Warsaw team. They played their hearts out throughout and should be very proud of how the season went.
The PCHS Boys soccer team finished out their season losing to rival Penquis yesterday in a playin game. A tough loss but I heard they played well playing undermanned.
